School PD Plan

Professional development at Bergen Arts and Science Charter School is offered to staff members via in district workshops, mentoring services, literacy coaching, and team based learning. As per the Professional Development Opportunity chart, staff personnel, IT personnel, supervisors, and administration members are all contributors to our professional development program. Bergen Arts and Science Charter School also has partnerships in place with state universities. NJIT and BASCS share the common goals of raising student interest, participation and performance in science, mathematics, and technology so that all students can meet challenging national and state standards. BASCS also believes in the importance of allowing grade levels and departments to meet on a weekly basis to support, analyze, and communicate student achievements and academic goals. Furthermore, all staff members meet at least once a week in order to further communicate thoughts and ideas. Grade level teachers also work in teams in order to create rubrics, benchmarks, and grading systems in order to establish common assessments. Teachers also are encouraged to observe masterful teachers; several teachers have been videotaped in order to give other staff members ideas and suggestions for their classrooms. Also, as per the professional development opportunities chart, special education and ELL staff members have and will continue to provide teachers with in district training in order to support special needs students.
